John Gallahorn

John Gallahorn serves as the manager for the Department of Naval Architecture and Weight Engineering (E42) at Newport News Shipbuilding.

He leads the Naval Architecture and Weight Engineering organization in support of all design and construction programs at Newport News Shipbuilding. This includes support of the design and new construction of Ford Class Aircraft Carriers and Columbia Class submarines, planning yard oversight of the stability status of Los Angeles Class Submarines, the repair, overhaul, and inactivation of in-service aircraft carriers and submarines, and construction and maintenance of Virginia Class Submarines. E42 also leads and supports a variety of research and development initiatives for current and future classes of submarines and aircraft carriers.  

John graduated from Virginia Tech in 1998 with a B.S. in Ocean Engineering. He is an active member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), the Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE), and the Naval Submarine League.

He lives in Carrollton, VA with his wife Cathy (also an alumnus of Virginia Tech and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine) and their daughters Riley and Katie.
