England's research focuses on the interactions between planetary atmospheres and the space environment.  He is the Project Scientist for NASA’s Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON), a co-Investigator on NASA’s Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) mission of opportunity and a Participating Scientist on NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) mission.

  • Thermospheric Lead, Mars Orbiters for Surface-Atmosphere-Ionosphere Connections (MOSAIC), 2019 Planetary Mission Concept Studies Program, 2019 – 2020. Ongoing study will culminate in report to National Academy of Sciences, Panel for the Decadal Survey – Planetary Science.
  • National Academy of Sciences, Committee for the Review of Progress Toward Implementing the Decadal Survey – Solar and Space Physics, 2018-2020. Lead to peer-reviewed report.
  • Member American Geophysical Union, Space Physics and Aeronomy Fellow Committee, 2015 – 2016. Responsible for providing peer review of nominations to Fellow of the AGU.
  • Member National Science Foundation CEDAR Steering Committee, 2014 - 2016. Responsible for providing feedback to NSF regarding its roadmap for future investments in the geospace field.
  • Virginia Tech Liaison to the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, 2016 - Present. 
  • 2020 Dean's Award: Excellence in Teaching award, College of Engineering, Virginia Tech
  • 2016 RHG Exceptional Achievement for Science, for achieving exciting science results and making fundamental discoveries about the Mars environment from the MAVEN spacecraft.
