Small satellites and space-based sensing

An image of earth from space
AOE researchers and students are advancing our understanding of space dynamics, state estimation, motion prediction, and space physics, as they explore the effects these principles have on the design and operation of satellites and other spacecraft.

Research in small satellites and space-based sensing seeks to enable resilient airborne and space-based communications, reconnaissance, and position/navigation/timing (PNT), including during contested and wartime scenarios. Researchers are also investigating ways to

  • Demonstrate wide-area public safety communications and ubiquitous remote sensing.
  • Develop robust autonomy and command and control for heterogeneous constellations including air-, ground-, sea-, and undersea-based systems.
