Spacecraft simulator laboratory

The focus of SSSL research is both theoretical and experimental. The lab, located in 214 Hancock Hall, houses the Distributed Spacecraft Attitude Control System Simulator (DSACSS), under development. The purpose of DSACSS is to provide an experimental test bed for the development of distributed control laws, as would be used to control the pointing and spacing of a formation of satellites. Other projects using DSACSS are investigating the behavior of a magnetic bearing on a moving platform, and the use of control moment gyros for attitude control. Finally, several students are working on innovative control schemes for use on HokieSat.
