Instrumentation and Electrical Support

The department offers assistance with many of the electrical needs that arise during research activities -- including troubleshooting, diagnostics, instrumentation setup, wiring, soldering, and providing advice and guidance on projects.  We have a dedicated senior electrical technician and a fully-staffed machine shop to help your research project succeed.     

Capabilities

  • Instrumentation setup and configuration, Force Sensors, Strain Gauge, etc. installation, repair and calibration.
  • Wiring of instrumentation, hardware, sensors/actuators, Fiber Optic Repair and installation and soldering of components.
  • Diagnostics of instrumentation and hardware.
  • Experiment setup and installation advice.
  • Sensor configuration advice.
  • On and off-site assistance with requests.
  • Hands-on instructional guidance on use of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Soldering down to SMD level with proper equipment.
  • Wiring of power from 2/0 to 36AWG wiring, including soldering of connections.
  • PCB design, build and test.
  • Trouble shooting, installation and repair of electronic components in circuits as well as power issues in equipment.
  • Design and fabricating electronic enclosures to meet the needs of customers.
  • Research on replacement parts for older outdated equipment and replacement.
