Propulsion and Energetics Laboratory (PropEL)

main pic

Our research group is primarily focused on energetic materials, combustion, and propulsion.  As a starting point, we participate in the development, characterization, and optimization of energetic materials and propellants.  The group studies fundamental aspects of combustion with an eye towards end applications in high speed propulsion systems.  Our research supports pyrotechnics, rocket propulsion (solids, liquids, and hybrids), and high speed air breathing systems such as ramjets and scramjets.

We have current research projects focused on solid rocket propulsion, hybrid rockets, solid fuel ramjets, solid fuel scramjets, and additive manufacturing of energetic materials.  Our group is always seeking highly motivated undergraduate and graduate researchers.  If you have interest in learning more about our research or joining the Propulsion and Energetics Laboratory (PropEL), please feel free to email gyoung1199@vt.edu.
