Dr. Jonathan Arenberg, Northrop Grumman Space Systems
Faculty Host: Dr. Jonathan Black

Abstract: This talk will discuss the steps and process for developing a new idea into a mission or product. These lessons and observations are drawn from the speaker’s experience in development of such flight missions as the Chandra X-ray Observatory, Space Based Laser, Starshade and the James Webb Space Telescope. The steps of the design process will be introduced and discussed. Although these steps are presented as a linear progression, it will be shown that design in the real world is anything but a linear process. The talk will conclude with some lessons learned about the profession of system design and development.
