Fiscal Support Technician - Blacksburg, VA

The Financial Support Technician provides administrative and financial support for the Center for Renewable Energy and Aerodynamic Technology and for the Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel. This position serves as the front office contact for the Center and the Wind Tunnel, and provides clerical support for Aerospace and Ocean Engineering faculty. This position also provides grant administration for externally and internally funded grants including assistance in the financial management of projects from initiation through closeout, and serves as the liaison between faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs for these projects. Other responsibilities include managing wind tunnel billing and providing the support needed for the day to day operation of the center. Tasks may include, but are not limited to monitoring and/or reconciling fiscal activity, maintaining records, analyzing data, preparing financial reports, developing budget forecasts, and interpreting and disseminating programmatic information regarding the terms of the grants to a diverse clientele. Other responsibilities include web site creation and administration, ordering materials and supplies to support research projects, processing travel forms and travel reimbursement vouchers for students and faculty, and working with the director to meet the administrative requirements of the center.

Required Qualifications: Demonstrated experience providing financial support, such as budget planning, interpreting accounting policy and procedure, and providing fiscal oversight for research projects. Experience such as generating documents and reports using various database and spreadsheet software programs such as Excel. Ability to independently set priorities, manage tasks, and meet deadlines. Excellent communication and customer service skills needed for pleasant and professional interaction with administrators, faculty, students and staff. Must effectively accept challenges and responsibility; take pride in setting and achieving goals; demonstrate a strong work ethic and team orientation; and demonstrate the desire to work in a student and research oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous financial experience in a center or academic department. Familiarity with grants and contracts award and administration regulations. Experience working with financial and procurement systems.
