AOE Advising - Transfer Students

PLEASE REFER TO THE HOKIE SPA UNDER TIMETABLE OF CLASSES "IMPORTANT DATES AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION." SEE THE FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE AT WWW.REGISTRAR@VT.EDU, "GENERAL INFORMATION". ALSO, REFER TO THE "UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG" FOR INFORMATION.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transfer credit is assessed by the University Registrar in cooperation with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for Engineering. Credit is based on a comparison of actual course coverage at the previous institution with that of a similar or equivalent course at Virginia Tech. Transfer credit hours may not equal that given by the previous institution, but every attempt will be made to minimize credit loss. The decision of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs regarding transfer credit is final. Only courses with a grade of C or better can be considered for transfer credit. Courses taken on a pass/fail basis cannot be transferred unless the college catalog clearly states that a grade of pass implies C or better work. Grades do not transfer. A transfer student's grade point average (GPA) at Virginia Tech is calculated only from grades and credits earned at Virginia Tech.

Transfer students who have been certified as native (a native student is a student who has earned all credits for an associate degree at a VCCS school) students at a Virginia Community College System school or Richard Bland College as completing the transfer module (hours used toward graduation) will be deemed to have completed the University Core Curriculum as described in the Transfer Guide under VCCS/RBC Transfer Module. However, the College of Engineering requires six credits from Area Two and six from Area Three.

Transfer students who are accepted to Virginia Tech and have not completed the foreign language requirement, must earn six (6) semester hours of a single foreign language before the degree can be awarded. If the foreign language requirement is completed at Virginia Tech (for students the College of Engineering) the course can be taken pass/fail. If the foreign language requirement is completed at another college or university, a grade of C or better must be earned to transfer the credit back to Virginia Tech. Please see the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for Engineering's Office for additional information and approval to take the course elsewhere (See Transfer Credit).

In addition, all students who graduate from Virginia Tech must complete three (3) hours of U.S. History.
