AOE Advising - Incomplete Grade

PLEASE REFER TO THE HOKIE SPA UNDER TIMETABLE OF CLASSES "IMPORTANT DATES AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION." SEE THE FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE AT WWW.REGISTRAR@VT.EDU, "GENERAL INFORMATION". ALSO, REFER TO THE "UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG" FOR INFORMATION.

INCOMPLETE GRADE

An incomplete grade may be given when the requirements of a course, other than the final examination, have not been completed due to illness or extenuating circumstances beyond the control of the student. The (I) grade in this situation is given at the prerogative of the instructor.

An (I) grade may be given when the student does not take the final examination and in addition has: (1) written permission from Schiffert Health Center or (2) written permission from the student's Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to defer the exam(s).

If you are too ill to take a final exam, you must report to Schiffert Health Center immediately and request an exam deferment. If a final exam is taken while ill and a low or failing grade is received, the exam cannot be retaken and the course cannot be dropped from the grade report (See Final Exam Change(s) for additional information.) To remove an I grade, lecture course requirements must be satisfied during your first subsequent semester of enrollment, and laboratory course requirements must be satisfied prior to the end of the first semester during which the course is offered and you are enrolled. Incomplete grades automatically revert to F unless requirements are fully satisfied during the period of time allowed, as stated above. The College of Engineering considers the grade to be F after the allowed period of time, even if the records in the Registrar's Office reflect an I.

A no grade (NG) is automatically assigned when a student is enrolled in a class and no other grade is assigned by the class instructor. If you are enrolled in a class, and your grade report reflects a NG, please see your instructor immediately to determine the reason for the NG. The NG will turn to F at the end of the subsequent term, if it is not changed to a letter grade (A F). Please contact the Associate Dean of Academic Affair for Engineering's Office for additional information, 212 Hancock Hall.

A Non-Reported Grade (NR) is recorded when a student is enrolled in a class but the instructor does not report a grade. Contact the instructor immediately.
