3D Parallel Electrostatic PIC Code

Principal Investigator: Julien Pierru

The CAP Lab already has mulitple PIC codes, sequential electrostatic, sequential electromagnetic, parallel electromagnetic. The objective here is to add a parallel electrostatic PIC code to the COLISEUM package by parallelizing the sequential electrostatic PIC code present in it.
This is being done using the MPI library, widely used on parallel computers. The simulation domain is divided into subdomains assigned to different processors which perform locally the particle push and the field solving, after exchanging mesh boundary informations.

In 2D the PIC process is done as presented in this animation (click on the link to open up the animation, animation realised by Lubos Brieda), the same process can be applied to 3D problems.
