AOE Seminar:

Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification Practices in the Advanced Simulation and Computing Program at Sandia National Laboratories

SpeakerDr. Anthony A. Giunta
InstitutionSandia National Laboratories
Faculty HostDr. William Mason
Date & Time09.07.2009 04:00pm
Location129 McBryde Hall

This briefing will provide an overview of the quantification of margins and uncertainties (QMU) methods that have been developed under the auspices of Sandia’s Advanced Simulation and Computing program. These QMU methods leverage Sandia’s 10+ years of work in theory and practice of computer model verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification. This briefing will cover some of the basic mathematical and statistical concepts that underpin QMU, and will show some examples of how QMU is applied in Sandia’s engineering applications. The latter will include topics from computational fluid dynamics, computational solid mechanics, and computational radiation transport. Employment opportunities at Sandia National Laboratories will also be discussed.
