Dr. Eric Paterson (PSU) named to head Aerospace and Ocean Engineering
Eric G. Paterson, a world-renowned expert in computational fluid dynamics, will join Virginia Tech as head of its aerospace and ocean engineering department, effective August 10.
Paterson is currently a senior scientist at Penn State University’s Applied Research Lab, the chief scientist of the computational mechanics division of the Applied Research Lab, and a professor of mechanical engineering. More...
The first flight test of the 5 Meter Joined Wing Sensorcraft took place at the Foremost Air Base in Alberta, Canada. The Joined Wing Sensorcraft is a proposed next generation High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). This research is part of a joint project between Virginia Tech and the University of Victoria (Canada). A video of the flight test is shown here.
Nick Stinson, one of the 141 outstanding American high school seniors selected as Presidential Scholars will be studying engineering at Virginia Tech this fall in hopes of becoming an aerospace engineer. Stinson, of Princeton Senior High School in Bluefield, WV, will be honored June 16-19 in Washington, D.C.
Scholars are selected by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. He is one of 141 outstanding American high school seniors chosen from a group of 300 qualified candidates. Selection is based on SAT and ACT exams, outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service and contributions to the school and community.
