High Performance Computing and Communications Program

Objective

The goals of the Virginia Tech effort are to develop multidisciplinary design methods which will apply the power of emerging parallel computation systems to a level of model refinement that would produce realistic designs. Our on-going research efforts on HSCT design will serve as a test bed for this activity. The research focuses on the development of non-derivative-based multipoint optimization methods in a parallel computing environment. Variable-complexity modeling plays a pivotal role in applying the proposed approach to aerodynamic and structural design.
