The above aircraft is Volant, an
airport adaptive regional transport, with a secondary role to
transport forest fire fighters or perform other homeland
security missions. It is an extreme short takeoff and landing
(ESTOL) aircraft, and was designed by a team of Virginia Tech
undergraduate students. Volant earned second prize in the
national AIAA design competition for 2003-2004. (Spring 2004)
