Truss-Braced Wing Project

For more than five years, the Multidisciplinary Analysis and Design Center for Advanced Vehicles, under a grant from NASA Langley Research Center, worked on multi-disciplinary analysis and design of a large Strut-braced wing aircraft with the same capacity as the Boeing 777. It was seen that using a strut can significantly improve the fuel efficiency and thus results in a considerable fuel weight saving. (2002)

The above figure shows some of the advanced concepts that were considered to design efficient large transport airplanes using the strut-braced concept. The presence of a ring-type wing can considerably reduce the induced drag thus greatly reducing the fuel consumption. (2002)
